Historical Enquiry:

Engage pupils in a historical enquiry or puzzling key question. Older children will devise their own questions.

Knowledge of:

  • People
  • Events
  • Situations & Developments
  • Chronology and Characteristics Features
  • Historical terms

Previous knowledge learned is to be recounted, built on and linked to this ‘New Knowledge’.

Understanding of:

  • Evidence
  • Interpretations
  • Cause & Consequence
  • Continuity & Change
  • Similarity/Difference
  • Significance

Each session will involve developing an understanding of one or two of these elements.

Communication:

Pupils must organise and communicate their findings at the end of the sequence of learning, so their learning gains coherence and this can be assessed by the teacher.
